Effective And Safe

For use during your childbearing years

Next Choice® is an emergency contraceptive containing levonorgestrel, a doctor-trusted birth control hormone that has been prescribed for more than 35 years.

Next Choice is FDA approved and proven to be an effective option for women. When used as directed, it can effectively decrease your chance of pregnancy if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex, sexual attack, or a known or suspected contraceptive failure. Seven out of every 8 women who could have gotten pregnant will not become pregnant with Next Choice. However, the second tablet must be taken 12 hours later.

Remember that Next Choice is not a substitute for routine birth control and it doesn’t protect you from HIV infection (the virus that causes AIDS) or other sexually transmitted diseases. Next Choice is less likely to work if you have unprotected sex again during the same menstrual cycle in which you took Next Choice or if you had it earlier in the cycle.

Safe for women to take

The types of side effects that may be experienced with
Next Choice is similar to those of birth control pills. Some women experience nausea, stomach pain, tiredness, headache, dizziness, breast tenderness, vomiting, diarrhea, or menstrual changes (such as spotting or bleeding prior to a period). Your next period could be heavier or lighter, or earlier or later. If your period is more than a week late, you should get a pregnancy test.

Important: If you should vomit within 1 hour of taking a
Next Choice tablet, call your healthcare provider immediately to find out if you need to repeat the dose and if a new prescription will be needed.

Not for every woman

Do not take Next Choice in place of regular birth control, or if you have any of the following conditions:

  • Pregnancy (When taken as directed, it will not disrupt or affect an existing pregnancy)
  • Allergic reactions to levonorgestrel or any of the ingredients in Next Choice
