About 2 million unplanned pregnancies occur every year in the United States and more than half of them lead to abortion.1

Many abortions, in fact, are a result of pregnancy occuring from failure to use contraceptive methods.1

For unplanned pregnancies to be significantly reduced, greater availability and awareness of emergency contraceptive options are needed.2

Next Choice® is a new generic product from Watson that can help women during these unexpected times. Next Choice is available for women 17 and older with a government-issued identification. A prescription is needed only for women 16 years of age or younger. It is composed of 2 progestin-only (levonorgestrel, 0.75mg) tablets. Levonorgestrel is an ingredient used in prescription birth control pills.

Next Choice is considered bioequivalent to the two tablet Plan B® product:

  • Effective – When used as directed, the risk of getting pregnant is reduced by as much as 89% if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. A study demonstrated efficacy is even greater within 24 hours.3,4
  • Safe and well tolerated
    - The safety profile of Next Choice was superior to levonorgestrel and ethinyl estradiol (also known as the Yuzpe regimen) for nausea and vomiting
    - Next Choice is not "the abortion pill", RU-486
  • Supported by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) – ACOG supports better access to emergency contraception including prescriptions provided by physicians in advance1
